House values

In France, rural methanisation units lowered nearby house prices by about 5% within 1 km. No effect was found beyond 1 km.

What is known

A study of more than 110,000 house sales near 620 new units in France (2014–2021) found that rural units lower house prices by about 5% within 1 km; it found no effect beyond 1 km or for urban units. In Denmark, large plants had a significant negative impact on rural property values and small farm plants a positive one. In Italy, a study of 167 plants found no significant effect.

Scale matters: the measured effect appears with large plants close to homes.

Quinta Monte Frio is 370 m from the parcel boundary and the farm to the east 654 m, both within 1 km; the edge of Avelãs de Ambom is 1,038 m away. The size of the plant has not been disclosed.
