On 24 and 25 October, MOV.AP – the Citizens’ Movement of Avelãs de Ambom and Pêra do Moço – attended two public information meetings organised by Lambert Bioenergy, held in Pêra do Moço and Avelãs de Ambom, respectively.
In these meetings, we questioned the company promoting the project to install a biomethane production facility between the two villages about the potential benefits, risks and impacts of the facility on the local communities and the entire Massueime Valley.
In response to the questions raised by us and others during these sessions, the company offered little more than vague answers, abstract figures and considerable uncertainty about the future. In our view, these responses did nothing to clarify the situation or reassure the local population.
In light of the opposition expressed by the overwhelming majority of those attending the meetings, MOV.AP expects and demands that the company honour the position stated by its representative: that the project will not go ahead if it does not receive the approval of the local communities.
In view of this, and taking into account the potential negative impacts of the biomethane facility on the quality of life of local residents and the environmental balance of the region, MOV.AP wishes to make it clear that it will continue its work with total commitment to the interests of the people, above and beyond any private economic or corporate interests.
As a formally constituted citizens' movement, we will continue working to ensure that the local population is fully and transparently informed, drawing on all available technical and scientific expertise and making use of the legal means provided for under the law.
MOV.AP would like to thank everyone who has followed and supported us from the outset, and appeals to everyone to join us in this cause, for the greater good.
For our people, our environment, our villages and the Massueime Valley.
